After a review of cemetery associated expenses, revenues, and surrounding areas we can no longer continue to fund the over 75% shortfall in revenue versus expenses with the general fund.  Resolution 2025-03 was adopted by the Town Board on November 11, 2025 to increase cemetery fees effective December 1, 2025.  We have included the resolution below for full transparency.  The resolution will also be posted to the Ordinances and Resolutions page.

Resolution 2025-03

A resolution to increase cemetery fees in the Town of Wheaton, Chippewa County.

WHEREAS, the Town of Wheaton is responsible for the ongoing maintenance and operation of the McCombs and Rumery Cemeteries and;

WHEREAS, a regular review of fees is necessary to ensure the financial health and proper upkeep of the cemetery grounds, infrastructure, and records; and;

WHEREAS, the costs associated with the operation and maintenance of the cemetery, including labor, equipment, and administration, have increased over time; and;

WHEREAS, it is the recommendation of the Town Board of the Town of Wheaton that the fee schedule be updated to more accurately reflect these costs; and;

WHEREAS, this new fee schedule is established to provide for the adequate funding of cemetery services, including grave openings and closings, and plot maintenance;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the Town Board of the Town of Wheaton.

Section 1: Fee Schedule

The fee schedule for the McCombs and Rumery Cemeteries is hereby established as follows, effective   December 1, 2025:

• Purchase of Cemetery Plot: $ 500.00
• Burial Fee:  $ 25.00

Section 2: Fee Deposits

All fees and charges collected shall be paid to the Town of Wheaton Treasurer or designated official and deposited into the cemetery fund.

Section 3: Effective Date

This resolution shall be in full force and effect from and after its adoption.
